Verizon Tuesday announced plans to deploy FiOS TV in Fort Wayne, Ind., in 2007, marking its first video service in that state. The company now has announced deployment of its video product in 80 cities across seven states.

FiOS TV is delivered over Verizon’s fiber-to-the-premises network and offers both standard cable RF service and advanced features delivered over IPTV including video-on-demand, one-button weather and traffic information and multi-room digital video recorder capabilities.

The telecom giant will be going head-to-head with cable giant Comcast in Fort Wayne. Comcast has been selling a triple-play bundle since December 2005, and a company spokesman told the Fort Wayne Journal that 75% of its video service customers are also buying high-speed data and digital voice.

Verizon currently bundles its voice and DSL service with DirecTV. The FiOS TV offering is expected to have considerably more appeal with its Multi-room DVR capabilities, 20 High Definition channels and more than 3000 video on demand titles.
