The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) today said it its Next Generation Network (NGN) Framework Part II: NGN Roadmap 2005 has been approved by the organization’s board and has been sent to international standards bodies.

Building on the NGN Framework, which was released in November 2004, part II of the document includes phasing and prioritization of network capabilities to ensure the deployment of the NGN and its services in a coherent manner. Among the prioritized enables are: unified user profile, which lets service capabilities be accessed from any location and device; security; presence; admission control based on service requirements and capacity, which enables the reliable delivery of real-time services; service transparency; QoS; accounting settlement; Ordering, Administration, and Management (OAM); multicast; address resolution; digital rights management; user control of profile/services; media resource functions; and group management.

Additionally, the latest version of the document includes underlying service enablers that allow new services to be introduced on the NGN. It does not, however, delve into any specific new services.

“The NGN will be IP-based, delivering voice, data, video and services we can’t even imagine today to consumers over any device, anywhere,” Susan Miller, president and CEO of ATIS, said.

The Roadmap has set a target date of year-end 2007 for a standardized deployment in the network. Supporting standards are targeted for availability by mid-year 2006.
