Verizon today added a movie downloading service to its broadband services, giving its DSL and FiOS users access to MovieLink content.

The two companies agreed to sell a co-branded service that consumers can watch at home or store on their computers for up to 30 days to watch “on the go.” Movies are purchased individually for as little as 99 cents from MovieLink’s library of hundreds of titles.

MovieLink offers an on-demand video downloading service. Consumers can begin watching a movie within minutes of downloading it over a broadband connection, and can pause and rewind as well. The movie is available for viewing up to 24 hours after it is downloaded. Movies stored on a PC’s hard drive will be deleted after 30 days, the two companies said.

By adding video to Verizon’s service offering, the company wants to not only improve content available to its customers but also discourage illegal downloading of copyrighted material, such as movies, the company said in a prepared statement.
