Cavalier chooses Amino set-top

CLEC Cavalier Telephone will use Amino AmiNET124 set-top box as it rolls out IPTV to its 180,000 customers in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S.
“As we continue to invest in our network to explore entry into the IPTV sector, we feel that Amino's AmiNET124 best supports the MPEG-4 compression codec,” said Andy Lobred, VP of Marketing and Product Development. “Amino's state of interoperability will best position Cavalier for a quick and seamless integration with our other partners for IPTV.” The AmiNET124 is a single-chip set-top box which supports the new MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video compression standard. While it uses a proprietary software stack that allows all signal processing to take place on a single chip, the Amino set-top also is designed for maximum compatibility with other vendors’ middleware.
Amino is one of a dozen or so IPTV vendors in a market that is being dominated at the top levels by companies such as Scientific-Atlanta and Motorola.
Cavalier serves residential customers in Richmond, Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Maryland, Philadelphia, Delaware, Southern New Jersey, and the District of Columbia.
