Globalcomm: Sandvine introduces next-gen broadband management
more on the topic
Chicago--Canadian IP traffic management specialist Sandvine has unveiled its newest platform, the PTS 14000, at the Globalcomm 2006 trade show.
The platform is intended for Tier 1 providers’ large broadband networks that are migrating to 10 Gig connectivity. The new product enables per-subscriber deep packet inspection (DPI)-based policy solutions.
Paul Kilbank, director of product and solutions marketing for Sandvine, said peer-to-peer file-sharing traffic, as well other multimedia-rich applications, are dominating carriers’ shares of broadband today, especially in the residential space in which Sandvine specializes. Malicious traffic is a growing problem; Kilbank said carriers have discovered that not all attacks come from outside their networks--30% of network spam is emanating from their own customers who have picked up viruses.
Kilbank said the PTS 14000 follows Sandvine’s emphasis on improving subscribers’ experience while helping broadband providers achieve their service goals through service universality, reliability and seamless integration. The product is designed to cost-effectively monitor, identify, analyze and optimize traffic in real time, and it can be clustered to offer a range of deployment and redundancy options, simplifying its introduction into service providers’ networks.
