The service portfolio includes Fiber Connect, a product which delivers four DS-1s or more to a cellsite, provided over fiber, and includes a discount of up to $15,000 of special construction costs, he said. Another service ETAG for Ethernet transport and aggregation service, takes an Ethernet handoff from a cell tower to the serving office. In addition, the entire Ethernet portfolio is available on a wholesale basis, including point-to-point, switched and LAN extension services, he said.
National wireless providers can take advantage of the national pricing plan rolled out last summer, with national Service Level Agreements and volume discounts, Lew added. He says Verizon will have seven to eight customers signed up on the plan this year.
Analyst Manjaro said the ability to flexibly deploy bandwidth, and deliver it quickly will become more important to wireless carriers going forward, and Verizon could capitalize on its fiber capacity to offer this kind of service.
“I think this market is going to be about more than just price – it will be about price and the opportunity to grow,” she said. “They need to prove they can deliver dynamic bandwidth on demand, being able to upgrade pretty quickly. FiOS is high capacity – if they can provision the service in a timely manner, they will have huge opportunity. With 4G networks, demand is going to be much greater, and the backhaul is a bottleneck in a lot of cases. Verizon can help alleviate that particularly if they can provision it quickly.”
