BT make VPIsystems part of the plan

Planning and engineering systems provider VPIsystems said this week that BT is the latest Tier 1 carrier to use its OnePlan network resource planning solution to map its migration to its next generation network: 21CN.
BT has completed three planning phases with OnePlan. It is currently working with VPIsystems on a project to implement a network capacity analysis and design (NCAD) system for its new IP and Ethernet network technologies.
Hank Firey, CEO of VPIsystems, said in a statement that OnePlan allows carriers to conduct complex cross-domain planning in order to be prepared to deliver and profit from valuable next generation services.
The three completed planning projects at BT as of the second quarter included a proof of concept project that validated the market-driven cross-domain approach to network planning; pilot deployments of OnePlan Server, OnePlan Transport, and OnePlan Access; and a set of task-oriented best current practices for planning converged IP-based networks.
BT will be implementing the solution across its full user base during the rest of the year while focusing on planning the migration of voice and data services.
Ultimately, OnePlan will allow BT to roll out “demand-aligned capacity,” which enables it to defer capital expenditures until demand for these services requires it. BT will also be able to more tightly align service delivery to actual demand by reducing its planning cycles.
Larry Goldman, founder and analyst of OSS Observer, said VPIsystems is now engaged in two of the largest and highest profile next-generation migrations in the industry.
Last month VPIsystems issued the latest release of OnePlan, which now includes an Access module for enhanced modeling, reporting and forecasting capabilities and new disaster planning features. Telstra recently purchased OnePlan a part of its ongoing transformation initiative.
