Executives in Verisign's telecom analytics and customer self-care division have taken the unit private, forming Globys Inc. with plans to deliver new solutions to help carriers better market new services to their customers.

Verisign outlined plans in November to focus on its core domain registry and security/identity services. The company launched its telecom analytics business by acquiring CallVision in early 2006.

Derek Edwards, CEO of CallVision and head of the telecom analytics unit at VeriSign, will be the CEO of Globys. Trilogy Partnership and Duff Ackerman & Goodrich provided funding for the new company.

“We saw an opportunity in buying the platform and technology,” Edwards told Telephony. “There’s a strong demand from telecom carriers in the areas of self-care and analytics.”

Globys’ existing solutions are centered on online analytics and reporting tools that carriers can white-label and offer to large enterprise users to help them understand their telecom bills. By crunching all the data found in enterprise contracts and billing data, users can maximize their service buys while carriers can analyze customer demographics, purchase history and usage to reduce churn and improve customer service. Globys’ carrier customers include T-Mobile, Bell Canada, and Telecom New Zealand.

By year’s end, Globys plans to deliver new applications that further leverage the billing data already being collected, with a focus on more robust analytics to help carriers better upsell/cross-sell new services and better monetize their existing customer base, Edwards said.

Globys is headquartered in Seattle with regional offices in North America (Atlanta and Toronto), Asia Pacific (Singapore) and the Middle East (Dubai). An additional sales office is scheduled to open in Europe (UK) later this year. It plans to grow to 75 employees by the end of 2008.
