Moto sues Aruba
more on the topic
The wireless industry’s appetite for patent litigation has spread into the wireless local area network switch sector. Motorola today said it is suing managed-WLAN equipment-maker Aruba for infringement and asking a federal judge for an injunction against Aruba from using its patents.
Two of Motorola’s newer subsidiaries, Symbol Technologies and Wireless Valley Communications, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Wilmington, Del. Aruba is one of a handful of WLAN switch-makers, which handle the tasks of managing large-scale enterprise wireless networks across buildings, campuses and even state and international lines.
The technology Motorola is disputing, however, relates to the 3-D mapping techniques Aruba software uses to plan access point locations and overall network design and managing of radio frequency resources at the site. Motorola said Symbol introduced those techniques to its first wireless switch, and Aruba’s use of similar technology constitutes a violation of two of its patents.
