Oracle putting weight behind communications group

CHICAGO--Oracle used TeleStrategies’ Billing and OSS Worlds stage this week to promote continuing enhancements to the software applications that now make up its communications global business unit, particularly in billing and revenue management.
Oracle added a number of features to the latest release of its billing and revenue management platform including a best-pricing feature that allows service providers to offer subscribers optimal pricing based upon usage for the billing period. Subscribers also will be able to get on-demand best pricing calculations at any time during a billing cycle.
A new dropped call management capability identifies dropped calls in the network and gives network operators the ability to proactively assign discounts or credits. Call management also allows for the dynamic creation of discounts such as friends-and-family lists
Oracle also beefed up the hardware and software reliability. New high-availability features include additional system intelligence and processes to increase the availability of the primary and secondary Transactional In Memory Operational Store (TIMOS) servers. These servers are used for network grade rating and charging of real-time events. Oracle also improved load rebalancing to increase system performance when restarting system data manager connections
Diagnostics got an upgrade with dynamic logging capabilities for debug-level information of certain processes, which doesn’t require starting and re-starting the system. The platform also now captures processing time of specific functions to help determine run-time processing issues.
“This approach of building analytics into our core products is fundamental to Oracle and reflective of its strategy,” said David Sharpley, vice president of marketing and alliances at Oracle.
Sharpley, who came to Oracle via the acquisition of MetaSolv Software at the beginning of the year, said Oracle takes MetaSolv products into places we never got access to before. Oracle has been working to integrate its OSS and billing components, a growing trend in the software space.
