TELECOMNEXT: NetCracker wedges itself into service layer

LAS VEGAS--In an effort to raise the level of discussion around the telecom service layer, NetCracker Technology introduced new technology this week from TelecomNext designed to simplify IP multimedia subsystem and service delivery platform interconnection.
NetCracker introduced OSS Orchestrator, a solution that provides a unified, single interface for access to the data and functionality necessary to create, deliver and manage a service provided by an IMS-enabled network and SDP environment.
"It makes your OSS, IMS and SDP ready," said Sanjay Mewada, vice president of strategy at NetCracker.
Orchestrator provides three primary capabilities that these environments need to create and deliver converged, content-rich services: visibility and access to detailed service configuration and capabilities from all seven network layers; visibility and access into network and IT infrastructure configuration and resources across technology domains; independence from the underlying complexity of OSS.
NetCracker also introduced its Cross-Domain Management solution, which can manage legacy and converged services that originate in different domains and across physical and logical dimensions.
The solution has been deployed by Telus for its IPTV deployment. "They were feeling a lot of pressure to deploy IPTV, but their back office was balking," Mewada said. "This gave them the capability to talk to the underlying OSS, old and new, and extract the information available for IPTV provisioning."
The Cross-Domain Manager solution supports the processes of Orchestrator in transforming the service layer to deliver converged services even with legacy OSS solutions in place.
"In the future of new services, the road has to go through the legacy environment. There's no bypassing it," Mewada said.
