SAN DIEGO--ADC announced today at the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association show that Pineland Telephone Cooperative, has started deploying the vendor’s OmniReach Fiber Distribution Hub (FDH) as part of a large-scale fiber-to-the-node deployment.
Pinelane, a 13,000 access line incumbent that service about 30 rural communities and counties in Georgia, is deploying the version of two versions of FDH—the 216-fiber version as well as the 432-fiber model. Located between the feeder and distribution segments of Pineland's network, the FDH also was part of a larger demonstration of IP multimedia services interoperability at NTCA here.
The vendor is positioning the product as something that can be easily deployed by any independent telco concerned about the operational expenses of launching FTTx. One of the key features of the FDH are pre-terminated stub cables.
“We’re trying to make the installation as efficient as possible,” said Brian Roddy, account manager of products and services for ADC’s West Region.
Just as important, particularly to rural telcos, is the ability to deploy the cabinet in 72-line increments. Additionally, it can be used in both copper deployments with VDSL2 or in FTTH where both sides of the unit terminate fiber.
“You can grow as the community grows,” Roddy said. “It’s gives you a way to build a network that can migrate.”
