New report defines IPTV quality
more on the topic
Multimedia Research Group today issued a new report that seeks to establish a way of defining and measuring the quality of an IPTV service to assure a consumer “Quality of Experience.”
The report, “IPTV Video Quality: QoS and QoE-2006” spells out seven “domains of influence” in the process of delivering a video service, and establishes best practices for identifying and solving Quality of Service issues. The process uses what MRG calls “quantitative measurements” for QoS and “subjective/qualitative measurements” for QoE.
The seven IPTV domains are: Acquisition/ingest, processing, storage, control, distribution, edge, and customer premises. The report also addresses the way in which MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 architectures handle packet restoration, fast-channel-change and other issues, and defines tools for designing, testing and operating an IPTV network.
The report is based on contributions from 20 companies including Alcatel-Lucent, Amino, AT&T, Cisco/ Scientific Atlanta, Harmonic, Harris, Modulus, Motorola, Tandberg, Optibase, Siemens/Myrio, Spirient, Thomson, Verimatrix, Widevine, and others.popular articles
