The IPTV Difference
IPTV providers are entering a highly competitive market with mature offerings from cable/satellite providers and cutting-edge alternatives streaming over the Internet. What must IPTV providers do to take away market share from incumbents and fend off (or perhaps even partner with) Web rivals? We’ll evaluate the network, service and marketing challenges IPTV entrants face, including feedback from the industry’s first IPTV rollouts such as Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse.

Speakers:

  • Pieter Poll, CTO, Qwest Communications
  • Bill DeMuth, Senior Vice President and CTO, SureWest
  • Stephen Cooper, VP of Product Line Management, Subex

Outlaw or Enabler? The Future of P2P Video
For many ISPs, 90 percent or more of all traffic today is peer-to-peer file exchanges, increasingly video. It’s impossible to ignore this reality – and what it means for the future of IP. This panel looks at P2P video from a variety of perspectives. What is the future of BitTorrent – the protocol and the sites that help deliver it? How are – and how should – service providers manage P2P video traffic so it doesn’t overwhelm their networks? Can P2P go legitimate, either via new business models or as a complementary approach that extends traditional network models?

Speakers:

  • Gilles BianRosa, CEO and Founder, Azureus/Vuze
  • Michael Coward, CTO, Continuous Computing

2:15-3:00 PM

IP Video Boxes, Gadgets and Devices
Helping IP video to reach “three screens” – TV, computer and mobile – are a range of new boxes, gadgets and devices. Will tomorrow’s video-enabling devices and services be delivered via service providers – a la cable’s set-top model – or bought directly at retail? We examine the latest hardware devices, including next-generation set-top boxes, retail offerings (from Tivo to Apple TV to the IPTV-enabled X Box Live), to Internet-driven solutions (such as Slingbox) to mobile video approaches from mobile operators and more. We’ll also explore the advent of the in-home network, and it’s impact on IP video delivery and distribution.

Speakers:

  • Bill Gaudreau, Director of Business Development, mSpot
  • Jeff Miller, President and CEO, ICTV
  • Paul Scanlan, CEO and Founder, MobiTV

3:00-3:30 PM

Keynote: Loic Le Muer, CEO and Founder, Seesmic

3:30-4:30 PM

Internet Video – Over the Top
More and more users are consuming their video via the Internet – but Web video comes in many different flavors, styles and business models. User-generated video sites (not just YouTube but Kyte and others), are proliferating and experimenting with new, more interactive approaches. Destination video sites (such as Joost and Babelgum) have emerged to deliver the equivalent of Internet-based video “channels.” And content owners – including TV and cable channels – are delivering content via their own Web sites and new ventures (such as Hula). How will “over-the-top” Web video evolve, and will it eventually converge with IPTV to the set-top?

Speakers:

  • Daniel Graf, CEO and Founder, Kyte.tv

  • Loic Le Muer, CEO and Founder, Seesmic
