Next step for Covergence
more on the topic
Last week Covergence, a 5-year-old maker of session border control and management gear, named James Moran its new CEO. Moran spoke with Telephony Executive News Editor Ed Gubbins about the next phase of Covergence's life.
On changing focus: We're focused on the enterprise at this point. We continue to hunt for service provider business globally. Today the mix is probably about 50/50; we see the mix shifting dramatically in favor of the enterprise moving forward. That's really going to be our key area of focus. It's one of the reasons I've come in to help Covergence go to the next level. In my prior experience at edocs, Virtusa and Checkfree, I was primarily focused on selling enterprise-class solutions to Global 1000 organizations. I'm looking to build a team that can execute on helping us take quite a bit of share in that space.
On the enterprise IP space: Generally speaking there's some softness out there, for sure. If you have a return on investment scenario, your project is still going to be prioritized. But large companies are looking at their businesses month by month and quarter by quarter. If it's not going in the direction they want, I think it is causing a delay in some areas. If this overall market downturn continues, projects will shift from quarter to quarter, and it will be a bit challenging.
