Hitachi, Global Crossing light it up

BALTIMORE—When service providers are actually spending money these days, the name of the game seems to be turning up that new capacity as soon as possible. Global Crossing recently completed “significant” phases of DWDM optical network systems from Hitachi Telecom in record time, according to David Foote, director of optical products and technology for Hitachi Telecom.

Hitachi Telecom gets test data and experiments with similar paths before a sale is even made.

“It gives [service providers] a competitive advantage,” Foote said. “When a customer buys, we already know what equipment they need, where to put it and how much.”

In this phase of deployment, Global Crossing is using Hitachi Telecom equipment on routes between Salt Lake City to Sunnyvale, Calif., and from Los Angeles to Phoenix to San Antonio. Global Crossing also has deployed Hitachi Telecom equipment on other routes.
