HP heir reverses stance on HP-Compaq merger

Hewlett-Packard board member Walter Hewlett voted for the proposed HP-Compaq merger, despite arguing against the deal since it was announced last November, according to documents HP filed with the SEC.
Hewlett, the son of one of HP’s founders, said in a proxy statement that he still opposed the deal but cast his favorable vote because he feared slowing down the deal might cost HP more than it’s initial $22.3 billion offer.--Kevin Fitchard
