HP revs device management story
more on the topic
A year after making a key acquisition in the device management area, HP recently unveiled a new platform focused on helping wireless carriers deliver and manage mobile device roll-outs to their customers.
The newly-branded HP Mobile Management Center includes key technology from acquisition Bitfone, a vendor that was focused on the service provider device management market.
HP’s device management focus actually spans three distinct but overlapping market segments, helping not only carriers but also enterprises and device-makers manage handset deployments.
Previously named FusionDM, HP Mobile Management Center enables key wireless operator capabilities such as over-the-air service activation, settings configuration and remote customer care and technical support, said Sunil Marolia, product marketing manager, mobility solutions for HP.
The platform also provides operators with real-time access to mobile device information from the field, giving carriers a view into user configurations, usage patterns and installed software. That view enables operators to better understand user trends and help it target and deliver new revenue-generating services, said Marolia.
“Telcos can utilize the platform now to address a larger set of use cases and a broader set of devices, from managing feature phones to more complex smartphone devices,” he said.
HP also announced an upgrade of its HP Enterprise Mobility Suite, focused on enterprise device management, including support for the recently-announced Windows Mobile 6.1 as well as improved auto-healing and self-service maintenance capabilities. HP also updated its mProve platform, which handset manufacturers use to provide over-the-air updates and diagnostics for their devices.
The focus on device management for operators, enterprises and device makers is necessary because all three play a key role in helping users make the most of their mobile devices, said HP Marolia.popular articles
