Tim McElligott Exit stage leftThe TM Forum has been creating artifacts for years, decades even (heavens to Murgatroyd). I've never been comfortable with this word choice, artifacts, but who am I to argue? The forum uses the term correctly -- it is an object produced by human craft, often used as a tool -- but I always felt it was tinged, perhaps through the forum's association with telephone companies, with the archaeological or historical part of the definition. The two Americas we are concerned with today are the disparate points of view between two North American service providers regarding business transformation... The spotted leopardThe more things change, the more they stay the same. This is especially true for the TM Forum. While the communications industry responds to a new wave of competition by making wholesale changes to its infrastructure and its business model, the mission of the TM Forum remains the same... |

Cable provides a welcome addition to TM ForumEarly last month, MegaFon, the largest mobile provider in the Russian Federation, became the 600th member of the TM Forum. And while the forum's member base continues to expand to other countries, now 65, and other market segments, such as enterprises and content providers, it is perhaps the recent flood of cable companies that will have the most to contribute and to absorb... ON THE RECORDMartin Creaner, president of the TM ForumA few short weeks from now, in Dallas, the TM Forum -- which gave into linguistic pressure and shortened its name from the TeleManagement Forum in July -- will host its U.S.-based conference called Management World Americas. As the industry reinvents itself to support next-generation services, so must the forum, but President Martin Creaner says the challenge for its members stays basically the same: It's the same old, same old OSS/BSS challenges, but for a new communications world. Creaner spoke with Telephony's Tim McElligott about what attendees can expect from the event...
