Qwest expands Internet telephony

Qwest this week said it is expanding its VoIP offerings to include larger businesses that want a direct IP handoff to an enterprise softswitch or IP PBX. Two new services, Qwest OneFlex IP Long Distance and Qwest OneFlex IP Toll Free, will allow customers to make and receive long-distance calls and receive toll-free calls via an IP environment.
“We’ve addressed the small to mid-sized business market, and the solution where we have a completely hosted solution so customers doesn’t have to have an IP-enabled environment,” said Thuy Ha, product director. “These new services allow us to address needs of certain business customers who are migrating to IP based environment--whether that’s a softswitch or IP-PBX--and want a straight IP handoff or be able to accept traffic in IP format.”
Typical customers will include large call centers or other enterprises that are making their own transition to an all-IP world, she said.
Qwest has been offering the IP long-distance service in its wholesale portfolio for some time now, Ha said, but is adding retail service and toll-free service for both wholesale and retail markets. The services will be available across Qwest’s national footprint.
