Voice over IP is now on sale through the largest U.S. retail outlet, Wal-Mart, as well as via home shopping television.

Packet8 announced today that its VoIP service can be ordered through Walmart.com and the Shop at Home Network, a nationally televised home shopping show. The basic $19.95 service can be ordered with a Packet8 Broadband Phone Adapter (BPA), and the more advanced video service, which costs $29.95, can be ordered with a Packet8 VideoPhone, an integrated voice and video machine. Packet8 is offering $60 rebates on the cost of the BPA and $250 rebates for a VideoPhone, at Walmart.com.

Shop At Home Network will be featuring the Packet8 service in 15-minute broadcast segments, which help explain how VoIP works. Viewers can then purchase the service and receive a $60 rebate on the BPA and a $30 activation fee rebate.

Packet8's service will also be on retail shelves soon, following its announcement last week of a partnership with Uniden, which is packaging the VoIP service with six different telephones. Packet8 is offering a variety of products and service rebates with the Uniden phones, which are expected to hit the market in June.
