Through its WilTel acquisition and a number of partner arrangements, Level 3 Communications has expanded its portfolio of wholesale voice services and accelerated VoIP adoption.
The service provider also announced an agreement to provide its Level 3 E-911 Direct service to HBF Group, for its nomadici-911 VoIP Solution.
“The WilTel acquisition changes our position on the voice market,” said Myrle McNeal, senior vice president of Consumer Voice Services for Level 3 Communications. “We have had a pretty substantial local presence and the underling VON infrastructure, but now we have WilTel’s traditional TDM-based voice network. With their direction connections to all the access tandems in the U.S., we have a great deal more control over the quality and cost of our services and a ton more scale.”
Level 3’s extensive local and long-distance connections put it in a strong position to help expand the VoIP market, he said. The WilTel network also positions Level 3 to offer support for toll-free calling and other TDM-based options for call centers or other customers who want to move to VoIP but without being forced to flash cut all services at one, McNeal said.
The company also announced acclerated adoption of services through it Master Reseller Program and (3) VoIP Technology Alliance Program. By expanding indirect channel distribution of its service providers, the program has adding approximately 100,000 new VoIP subscribers in the past six months, according to Level 3.
The effort includes CompuUSA’s nationwide retail VoIP offering for small to mid-sized businesses, which Level 3 worked with partners Bandwidth.com, a master reseller of Level 3 services, and Sylantro, a VoIP technology platform maker.
