Brightpoint builds Skype Web store

Brightpoint, the device distributor that has been branching out from its traditional mobile business and into voice over IP and other sectors during the past year, announced that its Brightpoint North America subsidiary is developing, hosting and maintaining a Web store for VoIP juggernaut Skype.

The new store, located on Skype's Web site, www.skype.com, will allow consumers and businesses in U.S. and Canadian markets to purchase Skype-certified hardware and accessory products including Skype certified products from Motorola, Linksys, Logitech and others, said Bob Laikin, chairman and CEO of Brightpoint.

The Web store represents an expansion of an existing relationship between Skype and Brightpoint. "It expands on the original distribution deal we've had with them," Laikin said. "Think of it as monetizing all of those eyeballs that are going to the Skype online community."

Brightpoint has now forged deals with two of the biggest names in VoIP since beginning to target the sector over the last year. In July of this year, Brightpoint announced the signing of a master agent distribution agreement with VoIP giant Vonage. "It would be difficult to find two better partners to have in this market," Laikin added.
