GlobalTouch opts for Telco System's ATA

GlobalTouch Telecom, a Los Angeles-based VoIP carrier, said today that it has picked Telco Systems' Access211 analog telephone adapter (ATA) for use in its SIPTalk calling service. The ATA, which also has been chosen by SunRocket, gives GlobalTouch a relatively simple device to deploy to the retail/residential market. The device combines a traditional ATA with a built-in router and support for lifeline service.
"We really kicked the tires on these ATA devices," said Larry Anthony, senior vice president of business development for the carrier. "We liked not just the pricing but also the capabilities to interface with our existing network."
Unlike many in the retail VoIP market though, the company owns and operates its own softswitch, which came via acquisition.
"In order to accommodate the ATAs on that we chose the Telco Systems product," Anthony said.
The SIPTalk product, launched in December, is being designed in large part for GlobalTouch's channel partners. Included in that group is several smaller incumbent telcos that are looking at the product to target small businesses in neighboring towns. The company also is targeting multi-level marketing companies and affinity groups as potential resellers.
"We're into the second and almost third stage of testing with a couple," Anthony said.
