Intrado provides 911 for CallVantage and Vonage

Longmont, Colo.-based Intrado has contracted with AT&T and Vonage to provide nationwide enhanced 911 services for their voice-over-IP customers. Both providers will use Intrado’s V9-1-1 Mobility Service.
AT&T will use Intrado to support its nomadic users—those with telephone numbers outside the local rate center and some fixed location users not covered by AT&T’s own service footprint. AT&T has already rolled out E-911 service to its CallVantage customers and has migrated the majority of them to its own system. Cathy Martine, AT&T senior vice president for Internet Telephony, said in a statement that the Intrado solution will help AT&T expand its capabilities to segments of the market it is not able to reach.
Intrado V9-1-1 Mobility Service provides the three main components of VoIP E9-1-1 delivery: provision of routing instructions based on a validated address, 9-1-1 network access, and local 9-1-1 selective router connectivity.
Vonage will use both Intrado and Telecommunications Systems (TCS) to provide its customers with E-911 service and meet the pending deadline for complying with initial requirements by the FCC.
A Vonage spokeswoman said it is a simple case of using a multi-vendor approach to ensure all their markets are served. She said it was too early to tell which vendor will serve which market, but that Vonage is using Intrado in New York City at the request of the local PSAPs.
Earlier this month, Intrado completed the deployment of its VoIP E-911 solution in New York. The company worked with Sonus Networks, Verizon and official form the City of New York to complete the deployment. The deployment helped define a VoIP Positioning Center implementation model that VoIP service providers can use to meet the November 29th deadline.
“Sonus was a large part of the initial role out plan in New York on July 7. As we grow and extend beyond New York, they will absolutely continue to play a big role,” said Marcus Andronici, product manager for VoIP at Intrado.
Andronici called Sonus’ switching technology a vital part of the solution. “The call delivery and actually taking control of the call from the VoIP service provider and delivering it on their behalf into the 911 network is a piece of the puzzle we believe makes the V-911 mobility service so comprehensive. It distinguishes us from the rest of the marketplace,” he said.
Intrado announced its partnership with Sonus Networks last week. It is meant to provide switching and call routing capabilities for its V9-1-1 Mobility Service. The service allows VoIP providers to seamlessly route their subscribers’ 911 calls into the dedicated wireline E911 network. It provides routing instructions along with the caller’s address to the right public safety answering point, a series of “meet me,” or peering, points to facilitate 911 network access and connectivity to local 911 selective routers.
