SAN JOSE--Session border control provider Netrake teamed with NEC to support Telefonica’s introduction of hosted VoIP services in Brazil, the companies said this week.
Netrake’s nCite session border controller and its Secure Edge Architecture provide denial of service (DoS) protection, Firewall/NAT traversal, topology hiding, access control lists, intrusion prevention and defense against malicious attacks and overloads such as Rogue RTP, malformed packets and spoofing.
The agreement reached with Telefonica Group was initiated through Netrake’s partnership with NEC, which handles solution sales, implementation and technical support.
“Latin America is poised for VoIP growth. It will be the next big wave,” said Mark Neider, director of product marketing for Netrake.
The Telefonica win came as Netrake reached the 3.5 million mark in the number of SIP subscribers of VoIP traffic on nCite-supported networks.
“Everyone of our customers is in a growth mode,” Neider said.
In addition to the 3.5 million SIP VoIP subscribers, Netrake’s nCite Security Gateway is deployed with more than 1 million individual unlicensed mobile access (UMA) network subscribers and will soon move into commercial deployment. Netrake is deployed in North American and European UMA networks.
Brian Partridge, senior analyst of communications network infrastructure at The Yankee Group, said in statement that Netrake’s experience in both SIP and GSM networks position it well to address converged network security challenges associated with IMS.
Neider said it will be big year for the SBC market based on consumer adoption and peer-to-peer growth.
