VON: Qwest builds wholesale VoIP portfolio

BOSTON--Qwest Communications yesterday announced new 800-number origination and hosted services for its wholesale VoIP portfolio.

The Qwest IP Voice 8xx Origination and Qwest Wholesale Hosted VoIP service are added to the Qwest IP Voice Termination service announced two years ago.

The 8xx Origination service converts TDM calls to IP for termination at IP-based call centers, said Derek Koecher, director of wholesale for Qwest. The white label hosted VoIP service enables VoIP service providers to offer a fully outsourced solution to their customers.

“The white label hosted VoIP enables our partners to take all of our feature functionality and deliver it to an end-user phone,” he said. “It’s a one-stop shop with a low cost of entry. They brand the product for delivery to residential customers, small businesses or enterprises.”

In combination with Qwest’s other wholesale offerings including long-distance, the services enable customers to generate revenues quickly, he said.

Qwest has seen its IP termination service grow by 140%, Koecher said, and expects rapid growth in the new services areas as well.

Some of the new VoIP traffic will be migration from Qwest’s TDM services, he said, but that is to be expected. The services are priced the same, so the migration revenue is a straight swap, but customers save because their network engineering and switching costs go down.
