Mobile voice-over-IP developer Sonim Technologies today promoted Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Bob Plaschke to CEO. Plaschke replaces former president and CEO John Burns.
Prior to joining San Mateo, Calif.-based Sonim, Plaschke served as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Sutter Hill Ventures, where he focused on wireless investments. Before signing on with Sutter Hill, he was senior vice president of worldwide client services at InfoSpace, overseeing the implementation of wireless data solutions.
Privately held Sonim delivers an end-to-end mobile VoIP solution enabling real-time voice services like push-to-talk (PTT) over wireless data networks. "This year we will sign a number of additional channels utilizing Sonim-based products, including OMA PoC clients and servers," Plaschke said in a written statement. "I'm thrilled with the opportunity Sonim has before it, not only to capitalize on the massive contribution we've made to standardized IP-based PTT, but to take advantage of the position we've built to pursue a broad play in core IP-telephony."
