BOSTON--Leveraging its unique footprint in the wide-open spaces of the Western U.S., 360 Networks today announced it will offer wholesale VoIP services to service providers for business and residential customers.
VoIP360 will feature an a la carte menu of services such as inbound and outbound local calling, e911 service, directory listings, local number portability and other VoIP basics, said Rogier DuCloo, senior director of VoIP services for 360.
360 operates a 16,000 route-mile fiber optic network that has deep penetration in the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming and substantial penetration of other Western states as well, DuCloo said. The company was already leasing capacity to companies who wanted to provide VoIP in rural markets and saw this as an opportunity to add greater value.
“When the company acquired TouchAmerica, it got Sonus softswitch inventory,” he said. “We deployed that and got it up to the latest software and other specs. We saw this as an opportunity to build this out and let service providers buy VoIP from a company that operates the network and the switches instead of from companies that are basically acting as middlemen.”
By selling directly to service providers, 360 Networks can be cost competitive, he added.
The company already named its first two companies –TransAria Inc. and BravoTel, both of whom were beta customers. DuCloo said there are deals in the works with larger service providers as well.Related Article
