COMMUNICASIA: Adaptix to reveal first WiMAX product
more on the topic
SINGAPORE--OFDMA pioneer Adaptix is rolling out its first broadband wireless product in years, introducing next week a mobile WiMAX platform it has constructed from its software-defined radio and mobile OFDMA technologies.
After remaining silent for several years, Adaptix has revamped its product line, optimizing its proprietary orthogonal frequency division multiplexing product into a new mobile WiMAX micro base station and CPE line. The new base station separates the baseband unit from the outdoor array, connecting the two with fiber-optic cable that will allow carriers to deploy multiple cell sites while consolidation the baseband units in a single location, said vice president of marketing and product management Byron Young. A carrier, for instance could install RF units on top of a building and on the street level to provide ubiquitous coverage of the entire property, yet control the network from a base station in the building’s basement, Young said.
“Carriers will look at macro base stations, but if they want to have consistent coverage in dense areas they’ll want to deploy are micro base station architecture,” Young said.
The company also launched two portable customer premise equipment gateways that support speeds greater than 3 MB/s.
