SAN JOSE, CALIF.--Broadband wireless access vendor Aperto Networks said it will be demonstrating its PacketMAX family of WiMAX gear at this week's WCA International Symposium and Business Expo, which officially kicks off here tomorrow.
Last week, the company announced time domain multiplexing-based wireless backhaul for cellular networks and enterprise access.
"Operators still need T-1s, and TDM is still in use," said Elvis Tucker, director of solutions and alliances at Aperto. "There's still a lot of legacy gears out there that runs TDM natively, and using leased lines would be very cost-prohibitive."
The TDM backhaul solution will run at a variety of frequencies, including 2.5 Ghz, 3.5 Ghz, 5 Ghz and in unlicensed spectrum bands. Also, the solution is targeted at application distances of up to 15 miles. "That number is representative of what we are seeing for this backhaul application in the real world," Tucker said.
