Cingular Wireless today announced "Cingular Sounds," a new mobile music program enabling subscribers to download new singles as exclusive 30-second ringtones, either before or concurrent with their release to traditional broadcast outlets.

Cingular Sounds will debut with the new Coldplay single "Speed of Sound." The popular British group will not release the single to radio until April 18, and its accompanying Capitol Records album "X&Y" does not hit U.S. retail until June 7.

Cingular said it will add new ringtones to the Cingular Sounds menu from a variety of genres including pop, alternative rock, hip-hop and Latin via the carrier's relationships with major labels EMI Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music.

Cingular Sounds ringtones will cost between $1.99 and $2.49 per download.
