Sprint and T-Mobile USA announced this week that they are offering Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) interoperability between users of the Sprint PCS Picture Mail service and customers of T-Mobile.

The MMS interoperability for Sprint is made possible by vendor VeriSign, through its LightSurf GM-MMS service. The LightSurf GX-MMS service helps operators enable MMS traffic to more customers through a hosted, managed service. The GX-MMS service offers message delivery, integrated billing and advanced transcoding features.

The offering comes as MMS interoperability between different carriers is becoming increasingly common. Canada initiated nationwide MMS interoperability earlier this week, and within the last two months, Verizon Wireless, Cingular Wireless and other carriers have signed MMS interoperability agreements.
