SAN FRANCISCO--UIEvolution used the occasion of the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment show here to essentially re-emerge from a relatively quiet period following the company’s acquisition by Square Enix last year. The company made partnership announcements, introduced a content developer program and launched an update to its UIEngine software platform that supports additional devices.

“This show is really about getting UIEvolution back out there,” said Chris Ruff, the company’s president. Of UIEvolution Version 1.5, Ruff said, “We’ll be able to more quickly reach all the new handsets and support all the new features.”

UIEvolution also announced that software developer 5th Cell Media has licensed UIEngine to develop games. “This is the beginning of a developer community,” Ruff said, adding that the company hopes to continue forming strategic partnerships with developers of content for wireless networks and otherwise. “We’re not going to limit our developer community to just wireless,” he said.

The company also announced that mobile media publisher Mobile Ling has licensed UIEngine to develop and distribute content, including its new Hip Hoptionary, a dictionary of hip-hop slang.
