Axerra, Narad target mobile backhaul

Axerra Networks, a vendor of curcuit emulation-over-packet solutions and Narad Networks, a provider of switched broadband access offerings, announced that they have successfully field tested their solution for T-1 backhaul over hybrid fiber-coaxial cable facilities.
The two companies will highlight the result of their collaboration at the CTIA's Wireless 2006 trade show next week in Las Vegas.
The testing demonstrated superior field performance with end-to-end latency of less than 8 milliseconds, according to a statement from the vendors. The solution combines Axerra's AXN Pseudo-Wire platform and Narad’s switched Ethernet-over-Coax solution, and effectively allows cable TV operators to offer an alternative to the traditional backhaul services provided by local telcos.
“The combined Axerra / Narad solution allows Multiple System Operators (MSOs) to cost-effectively attack the $2 billion wireless backhaul market. Using the HFC network reduces MSO build costs, and Narad’s NBAN architecture resolves the scalability and performance shortcomings of prior HFC transport,” said Gadi Tamari, CEO, Axerra Networks.
