CTIA: Amp’d unveils TV platform

LAS VEGAS--Amp’d Mobile today said it would be the first carrier in the U.S. to produce its own television network, announcing a new mobile TV platform that would consist of four streamed TV stations from major broadcasters and a fifth channel that will carry self-produced shows ranging from action sports coverage to its own spoof reality TV shows.

The line-up includes programming Amp’d has been filming for the last year in preparation for its recent launch. Shows like “Supercross Review” and “Best of Break.com” will join mobisode content “The Z List,” “Extreme Makeover: Homeless Edition” and “Swing Shift”—all programs geared at the younger chic audience Amp’d has been actively courting. Its content partners will add Fox Sports, Fox News and International Music feed to the deck.

The MVNO’s biggest plans are for Thursday, though, timed with CTIA’s Wireless 2006. It has partnered with Spike TV to simulcast the Ultimate Fighting Championship--basically anything-goes fighting--on television and its mobile service from Las Vegas.
