Caribbean wireless operator Digicel Group said today that it has completed the $196 million acquisition of Bouygues Telecom Caraibe, the wholly owned subsidiary of Bouygues Telecom with assets in Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. The deal was the company's fourth acquisition in the region over the last 14 months.
Digicel also said it will be launching service in Haiti tomorrow, with an offer of a free phone for anyone willing to terminate service with their existing provider. The five-year-old service provider now has service available in at least 20 Caribbean markets.
The Bouygues Telecom Caraibe deal gives Digicel more than 160,000 subscribers and 2005 revenues of Euro 117 million ($148 million).
In the past 14 months, Digicel has completed four acquisitions, including Cingular Wireless' Caribbean and Bermuda operations.
