About 2100 employees left Motorola in the second quarter as part of a planned reduction of about 7500, the company said in regulatory filings late Thursday.

The company, based in Schaumburg, Ill., reported about $101 million in charges to make the change. The majority of the affected workers were in the United States, Canada and Germany, Motorola said.

In January, Motorola announced plans to cut about 3500 employees in the first half of the year, yielding $400 million in annualized savings. The company shed about 1500 employees in the first quarter (800 of which were “direct” employees), paying them about $44 million in severance.

But in late May, the company announced it would cut another 4,000 employees, which—combined with other actions—would yield another $600 million in annual savings in 2008.
