CDMA innovator Qualcomm has named former Sprint Nextel chief operating officer Len Lauer to the role of corporate executive vice president and as group president overseeing key divisions, according to a statement issued by Qualcomm.

Lauer will oversee Qualcomm’s Wireless Business Solutions, MEMS Technologies, Government Technologies and MediaFLO USA units, and will report to Qualcomm president Steven Altman.

"Len is a seasoned executive with a tremendous amount of leadership experience within the wireless industry," said Altman, in the statement. "His background and expertise provides Qualcomm with a valuable perspective on increasingly complex and competitive markets as he helps Qualcomm expand business opportunities and further strengthen its relationships with operators and content providers."

The San Diego company also said it had promoted executive vice president Sanjay Jha to the position of chief operating officer, overseeing corporate research and development and Qualcomm’s Flarion Technologies business, in addition to continuing as president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.
