Sprint and Microsoft are rolling out new mobile search services including the ability to tie search to location using GPS as well as launch voice-commanded Web searches, the companies said today.

Sprint and Microsoft first announced their partnership in November 2006. The new services are the first to come out of the pairing, including:

A Microsoft Live Search box now embedded in the Sprint mobile Web home page

Built-in GPS capabilities on certain Sprint phones that allow users to find local businesses and listings without having to manually enter location information

Voice commands for GPS-enabled search capabilities. Sprint worked with vendor TellMe to implement the local voice search service.

The Live Search capabilities will be available at no charge for Sprint mobile data users. On select Sprint phones, voice search will also be available as a free download, Sprint said. In both cases, standard data charges apply, the carrier said.
