Verimatrix adds mobile to the mix

As the mobile TV market gains momentum, security provider Verimatrix recently responded by rounding out its content security technology offerings with Video Content Authority System for Mobile, a platform enabling operators to securely deliver broadcast or streaming pay-TV service over mobile handsets and other mobile Internet devices.
The software-based platform includes MultiRights to enable interoperability between multiple digital rights management schemes. Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer for Verimatrix, said the new capability comes as consumers are beginning to request seamless multiscreen viewing capabilities. The platform works over IPTV and on wireless devices and the PC, and it is standard-agnostic.
“We've seen an evolution of what was originally something that was designed for a closed network to a set-top box and a pure set-top box-centric environment to an ever-increasing desire for products and services that will cover the anytime, anywhere desire of the customer,” Oetegenn said, adding that VCAS for Mobile provides a final link in Verimatrix's 3-D content security complex.
The company now protects on any network, any device — yet as Oetegenn pointed out, as long as technology evolves, so too will security. “There will never be a last step in content security and revenue protection,” he said. “It is an arms race.”
