3GSM: NetTest launches new test and OSS solutions for wired and wireless networks

Denmark's test and operations support system provider, NetTest, made some noise at 3GSM World Congress this week with several product launches including: a non-intrusive and intelligent KPI/KQI monitoring system for mobile and fixed operators called MetroQuest, a post-processing performance analysis solution for 3G operators called Compass 3G, and a new version of its MasterQuest OSS solution along with a new MasterQuest customer.

Indonesia's Telkomsel will begin using MasterQuest to monitor its GSM and GPRS network and services. Telkomsel also will use MasterQuest's Key Performance Indicators, which can be used for simple billing verification with their interconnect partners.

Version 5.0 of MasterQuest was introduced this week, which adds support for the Traffic Observer application, a real-time network monitoring tool targeting Network Operation Centers that require rapid detection and pinpointing of revenue-critical and customer-affecting issues. It provides operators with a comprehensive solution for both UMTS radio access and VoIP networks. It also features a multi-purpose session tracing capabilities ranging from dedicated troubleshooting to customer support functions over advanced data warehouse applications for service assurance and network optimisation.

"One of the basic assumptions in OSS is that the information you need to do it can just be found lying around somewhere, but you have to capture that data and correlate it and that's what MasterQuest does," said Karl Erik Traberg, director of product marketing for NetTest.

MasterQuest 5.0 is one of the first systems-based platforms to offer end-to-end UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) and core UMTS network coverage. Over the past year, NetTest signed contracts for MasterQuest with 17 new wireless operators in 13 countries, including Hutchinson 3G in Italy, Tier-1 operators in North America and Europe, and a leading operator in the Middle East.

The company's new monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization tool, MetroQuest, targets local, regional and long-distance network operators. It features automatic quality-of-service reporting on selected key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting on individual threshold crossing. By documenting SLA performance, MetroQuest enables operators to identify potential lost revenue by highlighting expected service levels that aren't being met.

The new Compass 3G product features session-oriented analysis of live user traffic that provides operators with a full view of its network and service performance. It is client-server based and builds on NetTest's earlier Compass GSM and Compass GPRS solutions, which use signalling and user-data analysis to provide reports on attachment failures, failed calls and soft handover problems.
