OMA issues six new enablers

International standards body the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), has announced the public availability of six new enabler releases supporting greater usage flexibility of MMS applications, location-based services and other features.
OMA Multimedia Messaging Service Version 1.3 enhances existing MMS specifications by adding new content classes, and support for new multimedia objects and content protection, according to a statement from the OMA. Another new release, Standard Transcoding Interface Version 1.0, allows for transcoding of content files, resolving one of the more difficult problems of deploying MMS and other multimedia applications across different networks.
The Mobile Location Service Version 1.0 and the Secure User Plane Location Version 1.0 (SUPL) both address the growing area of location-based services. The MLS Enabler defines protocols between different location servers and clients fpr roaming applications, while SUPL Enabler enhances traditional telecommunications based location methods by securely bringing GPS generated data to mobile networks.
Other new enabler releases includes the On Board Key Generator Version 1.0 for security applications and Browsing Version 2.3.
