Qualcomm announced Monday new BREW publisher and developer support for the creation of wireless 3D games for its Mobile Station Modem (MSM) Enhanced Multimedia Platform chipsets.

With the first handsets powered by the MSM6550 chipset expected to hit retail in late 2005, Qualcomm announced content partnerships with dozens of publishers and developers, among them Activision, Bandai America Inc., Capcom Entertainment, Gameloft, Infospace Mobile, Jamdat, Konami Digital Entertainment, Mforma, Sony Pictures Mobile, Sorrent and the Walt Disney Internet Group.

The MSM6550 chipset is part of Qualcomm's Enhanced Multimedia Platform portfolio of integrated chipsets that support the OpenGL ES 3D API standard, which enables 3D games for CDMA2000 and WCDMA devices. Other chipset solutions in the MSM suite include the MSM6150, MSM6275, MSM6280, MSM6550 and MSM6800. Handset manufacturers are currently trialing the MSM6550 and MSM6275 chipsets.
