Cingular Wireless suffers network outage in Texas
more on the topic
Millions of Cingular Wireless customers in north Texas were left without wireless service for more than five hours Monday, the result of a hardware issue that overloaded the carrier’s network.
According to Cingular, the outage was resolved by about 8:15 p.m. CST. During the outage, some customers could still make outgoing calls, but none could receive incoming calls. Despite rumors that the outage impacted as many as 13 states, a Cingular spokesperson said the problem was limited to Texas and triggered by a series of computer malfunctions beginning in the Houston area.
Cingular maintains the problem had nothing to do with network and services integration issues resulting from its merger with AT&T Wireless.
