Tellabs, Carrier Access team on wireless backhaul
more on the topic
Carrier Access signed a “memorandum of understanding” with Tellabs to develop a solution to reduce wireless backhaul transport costs for service providers, the company announced today.
The two equipment vendors will integrate Carrier Access’ FLEXengine compression technology with Tellabs’ 5500 digital crossconnect to create a solution that increases bandwidth efficiency by compressing GSM/EDGE Abis and UMTS I traffic between cell sites and switching offices.
The two vendors hope the combination helps wireless carriers efficiently add 2.5G and 3G wireless data to their networks.
Separately, Carrier Access received a notice from the NASDAQ exchange on Friday notifying the company that it has failed to file its second-quarter financial report on time. The company is working “diligently” to complete its first- and second-quarter reports by the Sept. 2 deadline required for continued listing of its stock on the NASDAQ, Carrier Access said in a statement issued Friday, but offered no assurance that it will meet the deadline.
